South Park

San Francisco, California : : 2018

A project to bring an existing roof terrace into it's full potential.

Though the existing roof deck had plenty of space and great views, unattractive concrete roof tiles with stucco walls weren't inviting much use. We were brought on to warm up the space while adding as much planting as possible.

Our first goal was to maximize the functionality of the outdoor terrace which needed to incorporate an outdoor kitchen, lounge area with firepit, an existing cedar spa and space for a future dining table. Planters were then positioned to section out the main area into two related but distinctly separate spaces.

To facilitate future roof maintenance, the planters and outdoor kitchen were installed on rollers to facilitate access under the existing roof tiles. Planting consists of California natives intermingling with tropical succulents, while a palm tree gives a sense of separation from an adjacent neighbor’s patio.

The result is a warm, luxurious space to enjoy sunsets and downtown vibes.
